Gotta keep Tres Barrera in the organization in case an anthrax epidemic hits the major-league team.
Considering Pedro Pages is a better player right this second and not required to be on the 40-man, it is mind-blowing that they keep Tres Barrea.

So it's OK for sigh to hate but not for me to hate. I see how it is!

Braves trade for crappy RHP reliever Pierce Johnson for 2 pitching prospects Victor Vodnik and Tanner Gordon.

don't know anything about them but from MLB trade rumors...
Vodnik, 23, was selected by Atlanta in the 14th round of the 2018 draft. He split last year between Double-A and Triple-A, posting a combined 2.34 ERA in 34 2/3 relief innings. He struck out 31.5% of batters but walked 12.8%. He’s been back in Double-A this year with a 3.10 ERA, 32.6% strikeout rate and 14.5% walk rate through 40 2/3 innings. He’s currently listed as Atlanta’s #17 prospect at Baseball America.

Gordon, 25, was a sixth-round pick in 2019. He’s been working as a starter in the minors, posting a 4.64 ERA last year, mostly in Double-A. He has a 5.86 ERA this year between Double-A and Triple-A, though a 51.9% strand rate is probably inflating that. He’s struck out 20.5% of opponents while walking just 6.8% and has a 4.25 FIP. Both of these young pitchers will be eligible for selection in the upcoming Rule 5 draft if not added to Colorado’s 40-man roster.
If a crappy RHP 32 relief guy who's a FA to be can get a couple prospects (doesn't seem to be great ones obv), then Hicks and Stratton should generate most likely a somewhat significant return, one would think?

One would think, yes. However, Mo would not think. Therein lies the rub.

Love Pierce Johnson! MO State!

The return is a bit lighter than it appears on the surface because they’re Rule V eligible and Atlanta wouldn’t have added either to their 40-man and both would be risky to be selected somewhere.

Honestly, both have regressed a bit this year and seen their prospect stock drop a bit compared to last year.

But, if the Cardinals got this return for Stratton I’d be ecstatic. Problem is Johnson misses bats and has excellent velocity and Stratton does not.

Hicks should draw a similar return to this.

Stratton is a useful guy. He doesn’t walk everybody like Pierce Johnson does.
