How come Husker Du never put out a greatest hits album? That makes no sense at all (Husker Du zing!). I'm gonna have to assemble this myself through itunes.

Because they're Husker Du and all five of their albums rock, so there's no reason not to have everything by them. Duh.

Random 60s and 70s music musings:

I like "Band on the Run" more than 95% of the Beatles catalog.

The Doors. Say what you will about Morrison's bad poetry and stupid lizard king persona, but the band could really put a song together. I don't think I can ever not finish out Riders on the Storm. I can't think of many other bands from back then who troubled themselves to set up mood and atmosphere the same way. The thunder and rain at the beginning of Riders, the motor at the front of LA Woman, the guitar intro to Spanish Caravan. All good stuff.

I'm wondering if it's worth $75 (or more) to see Joe Bonamassa in concert. I'm leaning towards Yes.

It is. I have seen him about 6 times since 2007. The first was at "The Finale" jazz club. Awesome little venue. Up close.

I went and was glad I did, despite the hefty price tag for tickets.

The first half of the set was acoustic/borderline bluegrass, with a mandolin/fiddle player (not Leroy, though) and another string player. It was interesting to hear "Dust Bowl", "Dislocated Boy" and "Black Lung Heartache" in this fashion. "BLH" sounded good this way, "Boy" was so-so and "Dust Bowl" not so much.

The 2nd half was plugged in and with his normal touring band, including new additions Derek Sherinian (formerly of Dream Theater) and Lenny Castro. He featured his new material, of which I was unfamiliar. However, he closed with "Mountain Time", which was awesome!

The only complaint from me is I wish the audience would learn to respect the musician a little more and fight the urge to yell/shout out during the times when Joe was playing quietly. I paid to listen to him and his band, not you shout, "Go get 'em, Joe!"

I know this is only going to matter to a couple people on here, but after seeing Derek Sherinian play with Joe Bonamassa, two thoughts crossed my mind:

1. He's still pretty good, and seems to be a good addition to Joe's touring group.

2. Dream Theater would not be near the band they are with him still in the band. Jordan Rudess is such an upgrade over Derek, it's not close. In fact, after seeing Derek play, it made me appreciate Jordan's unreal ability and creativity even more.

Just got tickets for David Grisman and Del McCoury at a jazz club here in Mpls. I'm super stoked. Grisman has been on my bucket list for a while (currently, that's dominated by people I want to see before THEY die).

I've seen Del McCoury. If he wasn't on your bucket list, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Love to see Grisman myself.

Our local jazz station as "Bluegrass Saturday mornings" that I like to listen to, and they talk about McCoury with some regularity. I'm sure I've heard his stuff, but never directly connected songs to the name. Will definitely listen to him a bit over the next couple weeks.

Just started listening to him on Pandora - definitely heard him before and liked him a lot. For some reason never made the connection. Even more easy to justify the expense for the tickets. Grisman and a small venue already had me sold.
