I'll bet 10 GRB coin we don't trade anyone.
Why?

Holding players lowers their value. O’Neill’s is pretty low. So is Carlson’s. The trick is identifying who to trade while the industry is excited about them. The Cardinals can’t do this. It’s beyond them. The guy to do that with now is probably Nootbaar.

Braves trade for crappy RHP reliever Pierce Johnson for 2 pitching prospects Victor Vodnik and Tanner Gordon.

don't know anything about them but from MLB trade rumors...
Vodnik, 23, was selected by Atlanta in the 14th round of the 2018 draft. He split last year between Double-A and Triple-A, posting a combined 2.34 ERA in 34 2/3 relief innings. He struck out 31.5% of batters but walked 12.8%. He’s been back in Double-A this year with a 3.10 ERA, 32.6% strikeout rate and 14.5% walk rate through 40 2/3 innings. He’s currently listed as Atlanta’s #17 prospect at Baseball America.

Gordon, 25, was a sixth-round pick in 2019. He’s been working as a starter in the minors, posting a 4.64 ERA last year, mostly in Double-A. He has a 5.86 ERA this year between Double-A and Triple-A, though a 51.9% strand rate is probably inflating that. He’s struck out 20.5% of opponents while walking just 6.8% and has a 4.25 FIP. Both of these young pitchers will be eligible for selection in the upcoming Rule 5 draft if not added to Colorado’s 40-man roster.
If a crappy RHP 32 relief guy who's a FA to be can get a couple prospects (doesn't seem to be great ones obv), then Hicks and Stratton should generate most likely a somewhat significant return, one would think?
With mentioning here that Johnson is under control until 2026 so despite poor results this year he's a talented arm and potentially more valuable than a rental reliever

No, he's a rental. He's an UFA after this season.

Bref says 2026. I don't know where the discrepancy is.

I'm not an expert, but do they count your year(s) in Japan towards your accrued service time?

Mikolas had not had much time accrued in the majors before he went to Japan, and we signed him to a FA after Japan in 2018?

The right-hander signed with the Padres after a stint in Japan with the Hanshin Tigers. Players coming from overseas leagues generally get language in their contracts that allows them to circumvent the normal service time rules. That’s why Johnson was able to become a free agent this past offseason despite having between three and four years of service time. He’ll finish this year with between four and five years of service but will be ticketed for free agency again at season’s end.
so yes, he's a rental and a FA after this year

Nice. I'm happy to be wrong on this one.

Junk for junk. Great.

I would be OK with this, if Dewitt spent $120 million of AVV on the rotation this off-season. But he won’t.
