Has there ever been a more hollow .292?

This is a Cardinals baseball discussion forum.
And I'm saying that there are far better averages and struggles to jump on then a hollow .292 from ur leading hitter..

Edmonds..

Rolen...

Eckstein...

Pujols...

Kennedy...

Should I go on??

I don't disagree that there are larger problems right now. My only point was there's nothing wrong with starting a Yadi thread. I'd start a thread about one of those players but I don't have any real insights about them.

steve and Kyle...fair assessment..

I think it's far too early to tell whether he has turned a corner or not, but it's a promising start nonetheless..

I started a thread about a week ago that I think Yadi can be a .275 hitter, and I stand by that....he definitly needs to work on plate discpline and I wish he had a higher OBP...but he's getting hits....and it's a start

My only problem with this is that, again, Yadi right now is the least of our worries on this team, and whether or not it's a hollow .292 (which, GS, you're probably right considering his OBP and SLG)

The "What to do with Rolen" thread should, imo, have about a gajillion responses, because he's killing this team offensively..

I think we should be thanking him for actually producing and worrying about the team's other flaws. Yadi isn't hurting us in the least bit. It seems a bit unfair to talk bad about him at this point.

There's nothing wrong with analyzing a players performance even if they are playing well. JMO.

Agreed, but I just don't like how players like Rolen, Edmonds, etc. seem to get free passes for poor performance so much, but then when someone actually is producing, they get a thread saying how we shouldn't be overjoyed about them. JMO

IMO there are Yadi bashers and Yadi fans....and no matter what he does, neither of them are going to change their opinions. It's like politics.

BTW, I think his #'s are encouraging because it shows he can have a good BABIP. There was speculation last year because of his speed and hitting style it wasn't possible.

Go Yadi!

edit - ugh, grammar

Well, here's what it boils down to:

With Rolen, everyone is undoubtedly frustrated with his struggles. He's not playing as well as he usually does. But you say, "well, Rolen has too much of a track record to be too concerned; barring he's injured, you assume this is just an abberation."

Yadi is a similar situation. In fact, I think it's being handled the same. He's playing better than he has in the past. But skeptics like myself say, "well, there's too much information out there -- his minor league stats / his major league career, for example -- that goes against believing that this Yadi is the real Yadi. Plus, his 'good' really isn't all that impressive anyway."

Again...good point...

But I counter with this.....how long does it need to be before Rolen's struggles can no longer be classified as a slump or aberration, and how long can Yadi's success no longer be classified as a fluke or an aberration? (and I'm asking, I'm not being condescending)

Who makes that distinction?

I haven't seen anything in Rolen's game that suggests this is an aberration or a slump...maybe you have...but I don't see him turning a corner any time soon do you? And if so, what makes you think that?

Molina is getting a lot of hits on balls that he puts in play... more so than usual (even when factoring in that he appears to be hitting more balls hard). It's made a pretty big jump, leading me to believe that its fluky... he's such a slow runner that he basically does not get infield hits. Even on plays where infielders have to use a ton of range to get to a ball, they still are able to make the play on him.

Basically... I think its good fortunate more than it is good hitting. And typically, time tends to hurt the former than the latter... so I don't necessarily think it bodes well for Yadi and him keeping up his current pace.

As for Rolen? Well, I have no idea.

Yadi for the month of May:
AVG: .357
OBP: .372
SLG: .429
OPS: .801

June is usually is his good month. I hope he keeps it up, we need someone who can hit because Jimmy and Scottie can't seem to do it.
OK, those are great numbers. That said, from a relative standpoint, the slugging percentage and the on-base percentage still suck; they're both artificially inflated by his high batting average.
I didn't mean for a comparison to the rest of the league. What I was remarking was that Yadi has never hit this good in his career, and that he tends to heat up in June. He may keep going, he may not. For the sake of this team, I hope he does keep going...boost his confidence...and break out (I highly doubt it).

Beggars can't be choosers...especially with the guy playing 300 feet in front of him on the field.

Heck, I'm just happy he settled on a stance.
