I'll just say that while some media members are excellent, as general perceptions go most of those are extremely misplaced.

There is a guy here in Chicago, Jim O'Donnell, whose coverage of Northwestern football for the Sun Times can only be described as some bizarre drunken personal vendetta against the color purple.

I went to a university that has a pretty good journalism school. I know of quite a few graduates who have gone on to write for newspapers and other media. Although some were straight-A types, others where...how can I put this best...not very bookish. Most of those guys went on to sports coverage.

The people who cover sports, in my experience, are not the best or the brightest products of their alma maters.

No he doesn't. He's trying to put pressure on ownership by riling up fans. He did the same thing with Manny in LA. He got Frank McCourt to bid against himself. Now that teams are better at valuating players, its his best tactic.

Exactly, he doesn't want to lose the Cardinals as a potential suitor. The more teams that bid for Holliday, the higher the paycheck.

Holliday may return to St. Louis (I think he will), but Boras is making sure he doesn't get a hometown discount.

So much for cost-cutting. If the Yankees do land Holliday, it's safe to assume either Melky Cabrera or Nick Swisher will be traded, and perhaps both. The 29-year-old Holliday finished with a .313/.394/.515 batting line in 2009 with 24 home runs and 104 RBI. He would be an asset to any team. Agent Scott Boras is reaching for the stars in negotiations, though, comparing him at one point to Mark Teixeira, who inked an eight-year, $180 million contract last winter.
