They just didn't want their wealth redistributed.

Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin
I had a choice when I went to college. I could go, party, make bad grades and have trouble finding a job, especially one that provided health care and retirement benefits.GatewaySnayke wrote:BW, this is one of the last things I'll pick on tonight, but:
Not everyone who makes a quarter of a million dollars in income did so because they made good choices in life. Not everyone who makes this much money does so because they work hard either. The Republican party has effectively brainwashed many people into thinking that the more money you have, the harder it is you worked. This isn't true at all. There are people that do the worst of jobs and do work hard and they never get to reap the rewards of health care or retirement benefits. If I was making over $250,000/year, I'd be much less stingy about where my money goes. But I would want it to be my choice. Why should government decide who gets it? Why should I be punished for making good decisions in my life?
The idea that you can do anything you want in life was nice when Horatio Alger was writing it, but it's dead wrong now and Republicans are apparently the only ones who still believe it. America is the country of massive inequality and this cannot even be debated.
So I did that.
Then I had to pay for those mistakes, go back, take crappy jobs without benefits, start beyond the bottom, work my way up, take more classes, get my foot in the door, continue to take more classes, work hard at my job, do the extra things to work my way up, continue to take classes and be at a level of success that I strived to be at. All the while, I've passed up opportunities to triple my income (even doing more of what I initially went to college for in the first place) to better my community while helping some of those who have made mistakes in the past to help get past those and be a contributing member to society.
Opportunities are out there for the large majority of citizens to better their lives through education/workforce. Or both.
I'm not saying that everyone who has money went about things the right way or that those who are having hard times have made poor decisions to get into that boat. But that theory does apply.

You threw a softball. Someone had to hit it.BW23 wrote:I thought you were ignoring me.

And what you just described sounds exactly like what Obama had to do in order to get where he is today.

POLL UPDATE! YAAAAAY!

Being the resident poll junkie (PJ. Get it?) I'll comment on all this later. My girlfriend is taking up my ear right now.

That wasn't a softball. It was an example how those that truly want to succeed can do so if they desire. I see far too many that abuse what's given to them and take advantage of the system and pass it on down the line. Maybe they should do what their savior did rather than relying on him to redistribute the wealth.PujolJunkie wrote:You threw a softball. Re: Obama/Biden vs. McCain/Palin
Wrong savior. His popularity fails in comparison to Obama's, unfortunately.
