We also may need to realize that while Hicks has gotten better results over the past couple months, he's already trending back to his pumpkin ways. 1.800 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 in July.

The good news for a team trading for him is that he's apparently only bad at Busch this year. His home/away splits this year are night and day. Pretty stark for his career too - over twice as many walks at home vs. away, in roughly equal innings.
Maybe not.

You have to identify the overlooked or marginal prospects a team might give up for Hicks that can actually help a big league team down the line. That’s the job. Cardinals fans might not realize this because this front office never does it. And probably can’t do it.

Trading him blows that window out and allows others to enter the market and negotiate in the off-season, creating more competition for Hicks' services and likely raising his price.

We are talking about the same Jordan Hicks here, right? If someone else wants to sign him for anything more than $3MM AAV for more than 2 years, it isn't a loss if he leaves. I'm tired of pissing away payroll on mediocre and frustrating relievers on multi-year deals.
Wait until you see the extension. If you think $3 million AAV is where this is headed you’ll be really amazed.

Juan Yepez is the exact definition of what you’re referring to an FO doing (trading a player for a lottery ticket).

If he continues this season on a good path, I'm expecting Hicks next contract to be something like 2/16 or 3/24.

What has Juan Yepez contributed?

Being slightly below replacement level for the better part of 2 seasons.

That's basically the caliber of prospect I think the Cardinals would get from a team for Hicks, if I'm being honest.

If they can’t do better than Yepez, they should be fired.

Matt Adams was a 28 year old position player who had contributed 4.1 WAR to the Cardinals in his career before being traded.

Hicks is 26 and has contributed 1.1.

Not sure what you're expecting here?

What is the likelihood that this season is the best season Jordan Hicks will have as a Cardinal, traded or not?
