Speaking of that, anyone know how I can figure out if I'm registered before I go stand in a line tomorrow?

It's been my opinion from about a year ago that if the Democratic party put a cardboard box up against the Republican party it would win, so I'd be absolutely shocked if McCain won.

weeks have been very hectic.

Well, given the current clime and the tremendous popularity the republican party has made for itself over the last decade, I don't think I need to elaborate too much on the first paragraph I wrote.

From the second, it's a long story. In essence, I registered for absentee balloting, since I'm from St. Louis county and currently live in Chicago. I only got the ballot this past Thursday evening, a good week or so after I faxed for it. So by coincidence I happened to be going home to visit friends, the folks, etc. this past weekend, so on the suggestion of my parents, I go to the polling spot on Saturday to get it done early. I figure Okay, I can get it done and make sure it's in on time and everything.

I stand in line for 2 horrible hours, then as soon as I get in to the polling place and hand the oh-so-helpful volunteer my ID and filled out application, she checks something and looks at me with a blank stare and says: "You registered absentee". I said "Yes I did, but I haven't turned that in yet and decided to vote in person instead." She then says: "You can't do that. Once you've registered absentee you can't vote in person".

Now I'm not stupid. I understand that it would be easy to commit voting fraud, but since they apparently do have a computer system involved, couldn't they either A) let me vote then and put a note in the system that I've voted, preventing any future absentee voting ballot from me to count if I should attempt fraud or B) accept my absentee ballot which I had on me, filled out, and ready to turn in? Oh no. She just said: "You can't do that. I'm sorry. " and so I waste 2 hours alone doing that.

Then today when I try and get my absentee ballot notarized, five places that normally have notaries who can witness said ballot turn me away, saying: "Oh our notary isn't working today".

I can't think of a better way to say: "On second thought, we don't need young voters to vote. Have a nice day". The word "Ludicrous" comes to mind. The term "Broken System" also comes to mind.

Everyone's got their own conspiracy theories these days. In talking with my grandparents-in-law last night, they think the long lines are going to favor Obama because older people can't stand in lines that long. I think younger people in less flexible, forgiving jobs won't be able to wait in lines that long. Either way, there shouldn't be lines that long.

Hmm. I don't know if the rules differ in Missouri but I was able to vote here under the same circumstances. When I registered I mentioned to the woman that I might want to vote absentee and she said I would get info how to do that in the mail. Instead I received an absentee ballot. When I went to vote in person two weeks ago it popped up on their computer. All I had to do was sign something promising to destroy the absentee ballot and acknowledging that I could be charged with something (perjury?) if that ballot was sent in. Then I was able to vote no problem.

Doc, what is this?

It's a screen shot from one of the most wacked out movies I've ever seen. It was made in 1989 and was a re-make "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari", which was a silent film (1920). I rented it from Schnucks, like, 13 years ago.

The image is a nympho getting plowed by a kewpie doll. It was a part of her psychological treatment or something.

The whole movie is seriously messed up.

Well, she definitely didn't say anything like that. I asked her "Is there anything that you can do?" and she said: "No, I'm sorry".

I don't want to complain about volunteers but...there's a difference between a good volunteer and any body they can pick up off the street. And I meant to put the space between "any" and "body".

What state is "Here", by the way? Someone who previously worked at a polling place in (I think) Illinois completely b#$%# me out for complaining about the system because he's feeling high and mighty about volunteering for it. He wanted to know how it should be run and I'd like to tell him EXACTLY how it should be run.
