Cards chance is up to 17.8%. Giants are at 6%. Braves are at 78.8%.

Since the 2011 Magic Number Thread was posted, the Cardinals are 17-6, the Braves are 9-14 and the Cardinals have swooned out of contention for the GIDP ML record.
Just sayin'.

I really, really hope PHI doesn't rest their starters for that ATL series. Despite their tailspin, I still don't believe ATL is going to lose 4 out of 5 against FLA and WAS.JCShutout wrote:Atl: 8 games left, 87 wins

If stl goes 7-2 (91 wins), Atl needs to go 3-5 (90 wins) for us to get in (or 4-4 to force a playoff)
Cards:
3 vs Nym
3 vs Chi
3 @ Hou
Atlanta:
2 @ Fla
3 @ Was
3 vs Phi
Still a long shot, but at least they are making it fun.

I'm just going to go ahead and assume that we will pass the Braves with 2 games left to go, then promptly lose the last two while the Braves win out.

Braves lost Jurrjens and Hanson for the season and have a crappy offense to begin with. Now the Bullpen is showing its wear and tear...It is not surprising they are tanking now.

Looking at it like that makes it seem so much tougher than just winning the extra game they have (then 2 back) and then gaining 2 games in 8.....Felix The Cat wrote:I really, really hope PHI doesn't rest their starters for that ATL series. I heard a comment from the Philly manager on Sunday that he would not rest his starters anymore than usual. Something like he wanted to be fair to the league. I thought that was pretty cool.

Yea, essentially said it's only fair to the game that he tries hard against teams trying to make the playoffs. Charlie Manuel is a pretty cool dude.Leroy wrote:I heard a comment from the Philly manager on Sunday that he would not rest his starters anymore than usual. Re: So you're saying there's a chance?
Just checked the postseason schedule. NLDS games will start on Saturday, October 1; this means if Carpenter has to pitch the season finale (in order for us to even make it into the postseason) he won't be available until Game 3 on Tuesday, October 4, unless we want him to start Game Two on Sunday on 3 days' rest.
