Mmm, yeah Spain, not that impressive. Lots of possession, little chances created. Italy had the better of the real scoring chances.

For all the "beautiful football" they play, they weren't exactly lighting up the scoreboard at either of the last few major tournaments. It's incredibly effective, but people get it twisted and equate Barcelona's success with Spain's success. All Barcelona proves is that all that sexy buildup out of the back with Puyol and Pique, then through the midfield with Busquets, Xavi, Fabregas and Iniesta looks way better when you've got Villa and Messi to put the chances away. If Spain had a fit Villa, I'd be more on board with them. I just love Germany's lethal finishing. They can play any way they need to. They can be pretty and they can be tough. They're pragmatic and ridiculously gifted at the same time.

Agree with you on Germany...they are impressive in so many ways.
Ireland looked lost yesterday, I never expected them to get out of their group...but I was hoping they'd win yesterday.

The Irish should get an automatic invite to every tournament just to have their fans around. Although that would strip away everything that's meaningful and beautiful from the sight and sound of thousands of proud Irish men & women, singing together in full voice, to thank their lads for their pride, their sweat and their determination in the face of an insurmountable talent deficit.
