We went to see Rush last night. Amazing stage show, fantastic musicianship, the sound was terrible. How can a huge legendary band have such a terrible sound crew? You could barely hear Geddy Lee's bass. It kind of got muddied in the kick drum.

I think part of the reason i hate U2 so much is one of the band members goes by The Edge. Who the [expletive] does this guy think he is? [expletive] him

anyway he fell off THE EDGE of a stage and i am oddly satisfied.

i've seen my favorite band, primus, live once. in kc. it was less than stellar, er, at least according to what i expected (which wasn't something grand or anything). after that show i kinda realized, just give me the studio album. i dont need to see anybody live.

I would agree with you, with the exception of high-talent musicians. That's who I plunk down the cash to go see them do their craft in person. I've been fortunate to see many on my "list", but one that has alluded me (to date) has been Bruce Hornsby. I recently read an article where most of his setlists now are not setlists but audience requests. Given how long he's been at it, that's really knowing what you're doing.

I really like going to live shows if the band is good. I've learned to like a lot of artists that way. I wasn't much of a Springsteen fan until I saw him live. Now he's one of my favorites.

hah! i think its strange that im not a huge live show guy either but i dunno...i just can't get into them anymore. part of it is my personality, for sure, but yeah i find i always appreciate the studio version more. i remember i saw a show in lawrence. it was that 1 guy and buckethead. that was probably the greatest show i ever saw, performance/atmosphere wise. and it couldn't have been at too huge a place. most of the shows in lawrence are terrific, i went to several in college (2+hr drive from wichita) but its such a great vibe there, despite the vomit inducing KU-ness.

and another thing, i can get into a protracted solo, but sometimes they go on too long and i'm just like "c'mon man".

but there was definitely something about that primus show that changed me, hah. and its not like primus played poorly or were jerks. claypool had a good joke he used on someone in the crowd and it was solid but just overall, it was a let down and i haven't "been the same" since.

Yes, give me a live show over a studio recording. That's different than a live album. Only rarely do I like a "live" recording over a studio one.
