Re: Edmonds heading to San Diego
The deal itself is stupid, but the important thing is there's absolutely no point.
I'm certainly not taking a shot at Greenback here, but I just read a fairly long thread with public relations theories regarding signing Izturis. If there's any truth to that at all, then the Cardinals have some seriously retarded ideas.

Hey, I deserve a shot. I thought about editing all those damn posts after I saw the Edmonds news. I think I understand the Master Plan, but their one big deviation is Cesar Izturis. Makes no freaking sense.haltz wrote:The deal itself is stupid, but the important thing is there's absolutely no point.

I'll take dumb things the Cards have done this off season for 500.

Thanks, Jocephus. Nice memories.
I hope Jimmy gets an extended standing ovation on his first trip back to Busch.

Am I the only one who thinks this is the first "pointed" move that Moz has made? He just traded a piece whose only real value to the organization was sentimental for someone who could be a contributor at a position of need down the road. It's the first real acknowledgement of what many of us have already conceded as inevitable...that this team is going nowhere in 2008, and that we should be focused on 2009/2010 (and perhaps even beyond). That alone gives me a little hope for the organization that I didn't have yesterday.haltz wrote:The deal itself is stupid, but the important thing is there's absolutely no point.
Given that Moz's hands were tied by the small number of teams Edmonds would likely approve a trade to (an even smaller number of which have a need for an aging oft-injured OF/CFer), I think the return wasn't that bad.
The trade guarantees nothing for either side...but if it gives SDG (and Edmonds too) a chance to win this year, and the Cards a chance at a cheap plus player a few years down the road, then it's win-win.
I'm curious to see what will happen now. Will we be seeing a firesale at some point in our future? Might not be the worst thing in the world...

I hope so. Those people are unlikely to ever see another CF performance like the one he put up from 2000-2005.Radbird wrote:Thanks, Jocephus. Nice memories.

And then we'll sign Scott Cooper as the stopgap until David Freese is ready.jdk82 wrote:If the Cardinals moved Edmonds for next to nothing, Rolen next?
