Is this end of the Cards search for a SP?
Has it now turned to trading our extra SP + prospect for quality LFer at the deadline?
I would imagine DeWitt telling Jocketty "OK, we'll pick up Weaver's tab, but that's it, no more SP, let's fill that hole in LF"
If I was a betting man, I'd say LF or middle relief if we acquire anyone at the deadline.
The Weaver trade gives us 3-4 weeks to make that decision. I wouldn't rule out another trade for an SP at this point, but it's not very likely.
If Weaver sucks and another pitcher gets hurt or something then you could see it. Otherwise I think you're right. LF or relief is the area to concentrate on now.

I'm very curious to know how much money was sent our way. I hope this doesn't affect our ability to make other trades.

As we discussed in chat during game, Weaver doesn't excite me, but since we got him for practically nothing, he's worth a shot, and maybe some sucker will take a flier on Ponson, because of his salary.

fanforever I respect your point however considering the way Ponson has looked I really don't see a down side to this.

So what's the lesser of two evils, a pitcher who can't get outs ever or a pitcher who gives up more XBHs, but occasionally gets outs?

I guess my
hope is he somehow turns in to the 04 Jeff Weaver when he gets here. It's unlikely but we really have nothing to lose.
