Unless he gets to handpick the successor?
That doesn't seem like a very good idea.

Yes, this.

La Russa had his flaws, but so will any new manager.

Not really.

Thanks for the memories, Tony! Thanks for one final run, your way. You allowed me to witness the greatest run of Cardinals baseball maybe in history (form '96-11).

Now, let's start building a new run of contending teams and championships a new, different way.

My top candidates for manager: Joe Pettini. Joe Maddon.

I don't know if we can get Joe Maddon, but if we could grab him, wow... That would be perfect. I would even trade for him.

I hope they explore that possibility.

The Cavs tried to do the same thing for Lebron almost, and it bit them in the ass.

I think all Pujols concerned about is the money. I would rather offer him 5/6 year deal for 30 a year, rather than a 10 year deal for 25 million a year, but we'll see how it goes.

Count me in the wow crowd. Congrats to Tony. Way to go out on top. Thanks for the run this year, the run of contending teams, the two WS titles and three pennants....and all the head scratching moves!

I do think this hurts a bit in the Pujols negotiations, but maybe about 5% of the total consideration. I think we'll see Oquendo's name a lot in the next few days, especially if Pujols gives his say. Otherwise, I'm not sure who is out there off hand.

lol.

Perfect time for him to retire, who wouldn't want to go out on top.

I like that guy that manages Pittsburg, I can't think of his name but he has a huge head and he used to coach for Colorado.

I hope they explore that possibility.

I'd drive Lohse and Westbrook to the airport personally to get this done.
