What can they say, they like having a glut of crappy catchers at their disposal.

cards are in fact resigning Pozo (talk of a minor league deal)

Bernal, Crooks, Pages, already here (or soon) and Herrera trying out C again
Here’s MLB Trade Rumors on the Pozo re-signing:

Being able to fill out an entire lineup card with mediocre to bad catchers is the new Moneyball. Bloom keeps watching the Hatteburg scenes over and over again, and is like, "F*ck yeah! We could do that at every position!"

Signing Pozo says a lot about their lack of faith in Herrera at catcher. If they deal Contreras and Burly can man 1B full time, I could see Herrera getting a lot of DH/1B games instead of catcher. If Contreras stays, they'll probably rely on Herrera more as a catcher and eat the defensive cost.

I assume Blewett's name is truth in advertising.

A major league contract? I thought for sure it would be a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

I guess if they ditch Pages, sure, fine.

Add Dayn Perry of CBS Sports to the list of reporters pulling trade proposals for Arenado out of their butts. I’m not even going to post a link and waste your time reading the article.
Awww, I quite like Dayn Perry, and his newsletter is about the only Cardinals thing I bother to read any more.

If you assume they've already written off 2026, then they might just be thinking they'll give Herrera a low-stakes run at the position, but keeping guys around in case not? That doesn't really make sense either. It's a curious move.

It's actually a split contract so he makes less than the ML minimum when he's not on the big league roster.

I'm thinking now he's just insurance to see if Herrera is ready to go after his surgery. Or they think they might move Pages or Crooks in a deal.
