also, not to change the thread, but he grew up in the midwest and close to st.louis (at least closer than ny would be), plus he's pretty religious and the midwest typically is too...plus his foundation, etc...there are a lot of "other" reasons why one would think al would stay...but i guess it does come down to the $

I remember when he was being interviewed during the Home Run derby that he really seemed to be proud of STL, the Cards and their history, and seemed to try and come off as the company spokesman. Probably just hearing what I wanted to hear, but I can't help but think that he already views himself as a lifetime Cardinal, assuming the organization strives to maintain what it has been up to this point.

I agree. He's just using his power to ensure the Cards don't kick back and live off the money he brings in for the team.

I remember when he signed his last contract how he said he won't give the Cardinals a home town discount... I felt his deal was worth far less than what he could have gotten had he hit free agency. I think Albert says stuff to keep management in check, but he has a good agenda he follows.

Frankly, if we really offered 8 years and AAV of $17mm to Holliday (is that the latest I saw from Droopy?), then I'm really super-confident that AP is already a lifetime Cardinal.
