Having a worse record than the Phillies would put us against the Dodgers; having a better record than the Phillies would likely put us against San Francisco or Colorado.greenback44 wrote:Sure, skip 44 in the countdown. Jerks.
If we're going to have a jinx thread, I'll admit I was hoping the Cubs would win a few from the Phillies so the Cardinals get better "seeding" in the post-season tournament.

Re: MAGIC NUMBER: 45
This site says the magic number is reached when a tie is clinched. So if we were to use the mathematics in this site, the true magic number to play a post season series would be 43. 42 just guarantees us a 1-game playoff.Michael wrote:Actually, the real magic number is updated here. It takes in account the number of games teams play each other and the wild card. So actually our magic number is 42.
Personally, I would stick to 44. It's easier to track, and it will make this thread more fun to update after Cards wins and Cubs losses.

No. I want this to be as needlessly complicated as possible. GRB has a reputation to maintain.dmarx114 wrote:This site says the magic number is reached when a tie is clinched. This is akin to telling the Renaissance to quietly go away, we liked the Dark Ages. There were more castles.Michael wrote:No. I want this to be as needlessly complicated as possible. Sometimes superstitions are born out of practicality, like not telling someone good news before it really happened and then having to break the bad news to them when it falls through.
