DeWitt just said "we're going to find the best manager out there". How often does a World Champion team become open for a new manager? I bet guys all over baseball are getting their resume's together right now. We have our pick of anyone. We'll get first crack at the best guys in the game.

weird feeling. i was ready for him to be gone early in teh season but the last two months he (and the players obviously) turned it around and did some great things. i felt like he "earned" at least 1 more year...and hoped that would influence albert.

whether you like him or hate him, he's still brought lots of success to the club during his tenure and its weird thinking its going to be in someone else's hands. for 16 years we've never had to "worry" about the manager, we always knew who that was (again whether you liked or hated him). we focused on the roster and the minutiae of the season.

will be interesting to see what happens next.

For many on this forum Larussa is the only manager they've known for their entire time as Cardinal fan.

Rest assured, Cardinal baseball will carry on and a new manager will carry on the great Tradition.

Everyone knew Tony was done in a year, maybe two. The continuity of Tony next year then 6-9 years of a new Manager in STL I don't think was any real plus in the negotiations. Let's not forget there's still the bench coach, hitting coaches, front office etc that will stay the same at the park.

I also doubt Tony wouldn't have discussed it at least with Pujols in passing and the FO. I don't think he would have done this if he thought it would hurt the organizations chances of re-signing Pujols.

I don't follow.

Those are some big shoes to fill. If you take this World Series champion team and next year they lay an egg, it doesn't look so good.

But there will be good candidates, no doubt. There just are only 30 manager jobs in MLB, and maybe less than 6 or 8 that would be as attractive as the Cardinals. To name one, the Cubs would be more attractive right now, IMO - higher payroll, lower expectations for next year, if you do win it there you are an all-time hero, etc.
