Things are looking pretty good for us on the Holliday front. The economy has certainly helped our case, coupled with the fact that the Yankees just won the WS and are probably a bit more sanguine about their roster this offseason. I am Boras understands this and will push real hard for an opt-out clause, which may not be such a bad idea if it means securing Holliday for 2-3 years with a backloaded deal.

We get Holliday for his age 30, 31 and 32 seasons and then he leaves just as the contract gets really expensive? I could live with that.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that the Cardinals would like to stand on a five-year offer for free agent outfielder Matt Holliday.
This differs greatly from the eight-year offer reported by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. According to Olney, while the Cardinals are flexible to altering the deal, there is sentiment within the organization that they aren't competing with many teams -- if any -- at a similar level. As the dominoes continue to fall around major league baseball, they might be right.

thoughts of paying Holliday and Pujols a ton of money when they're both nearing 40 worries me, but I'd ultimately be ok with the 8 years if it gets the deal done.
