Here’s a tiny bit of good news on a very sad day. All 4 minor league teams won, and some of the Cardinals’ best prospects had good performances.

Memphis won 8-5 against Iowa. Jmodene wrote a good report here. Box Log

Springfield won 4-2 against Tulsa. Chris Lambert pitched 4 scoreless innings with 6 strikeouts. Then he gave up a homerun to the first batter he faced in the fifth, hit the next batter, and was ejected. Kevin Ool stepped up and pitched 3 innings. Matt Scherer and Chris Perez each added a scoreless inning. Bryan Anderson was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles. Colby Rasmus was also 2 for 4, and one of the hits was a homer that put the team ahead in the bottom of the eighth. Box Log

Palm Beach won 5-3 against Jeff Samardzija and the Daytona Cubs. Trey Hearne had an OK start and gave up 3 runs over 6 innings. I think Jason Motte has taken over the closing duties for the Palm Beach team. He had a scoreless ninth with 2 Ks. A.J. Van Slyke, Allen Craig, Mark Hamilton, and Brandon Yarbrough each had two hits. After a brutal start, Hamilton was hitting .133 on April 20th. Since then he has raised his batting average almost 90 points to .222. While that’s still bad, it is a definite improvement. I hope he keeps it up. Box Log

Quad Cities won 6-2 against Burlington. Elvis Hernandez had another impressive start. He gave up 1 hit with no runs and 4 strikeouts over 5 innings. Catcher Christian Reyes was 2 for 3 in his first start of the season after being called up from extended spring training. Box Log

I believe that raised Yarbroughs average to .315. While he hasn't showm much power he is getting on base at almost a 40% clip. Not bad having 2 young laft handed hitting catchers in the system doiong well.

Reyes was drafted twice by the Cardinals. It will be interesting to watch him develop.

Marti is still hitting over .300 in Mexico.
