IF the club is out of contention...

Post by Fat Strat »

(I emphasize IF) Who would you bring up to the big club right now? I would suggest...

1. Leaving Jimenez and Dove with the club. They belong there on a bad team and we'll get to find out what they can do.

2. Perez. Another reliever, but possibly our closer in '08. If we know what he can do, we'll know what options we have with Izzy at the deadline. (I realize he has a NTC, but you never know.)

3. Ankiel. Why the heck not? Let's see what he can do.

4. Hawksworth. We need a starter. Hawk is (unfortunately) our best AAA starter. I would let him work at the MLB level and see what he can do with Duncan watching over him.

Probably none of those will actually happen.

I would like to give Ankiel a shot. He can't be worse than Juanton Taguchimacher.

Service time is an issue for Ankiel. I don't like it when teams manipulate free agency clocks, but it's not at all clear that he belongs at the majors.

Agree with all of them, plus I think I'd add Stavinoha.

at this point bring up anyone to put around Pujols, Duncan, Molina, Wainwright(if he keeps the way he was the other night), Reyes(if he pitches like he did the other day), Looper, Izzy, Johnson, Franklin...

so yeah anyone on AAA that would fit around those guys.... Stavinoha, Ankiel, Hawksworth, Narvesson, JRod, and so on down the line...

I'd start bringing up the farm as well, but will give AW and Reyes the year to stink if necessary and get better for future years. As far as I'm concerned, it would take a trade or injury to get them out of the rotation. They need experience and the maturation process that comes from learning at the big league level.

I'd love to have Ankiel up with the big club (trying out center field maybe) and Rasmus and Garcia at AAA while Ottavino makes his mark in AA.

I don't see much point in starting the arbitration clock on anyone this year. Let them play every day at Memphis (the youngsters, anyway). They're not going to help the big club anyway.
