The Morning After is a St. Louis morning radio show.

Duncan waiting to hear on severity of Wainwright's finger issue. Has never had a pitcher with this problem. Hoping for the best, could be bad news though.

Hopes Todd Wellemeyer will start the 14th against Philly.

Not sure about who will start Thursday - Jaime Garcia is a possibility. Reyes is possible for one start, but Duncan isn't sure about him doing multiple starts. McClellan not really an option to become a start - tough transition during the season. Doesn't think Pineiro will be ready for Thursday. Sounds like Garcia is number one on the list right now, could be Todd from AA (although his name wasn't mentioned directly).

Duncan is optimistic with Clement and Mulder. Says Clement is progressing well, and Mulder could be an option with new arm slot. Two "very impressive" throwing sessions with new arm slot for Mulder - not sure if that's off the mound or not. Not much of a visible change in slot. Duncan though Mulder "was on the down" with the shoulder when we got him from the A's.

Not where he'd like Boggs to be to start a MLB game. Still needs refinement in offspeed pitches (changeup, breaking ball), above average fastball with lots of movement. Boggs will probably pitch again on the 15th.

Carp is plugging along, had a minor setback, but hoping to see him around the All Star break.

Izzy "doing great". Will pitch a bullpen session for Dave this Friday.

Chris Duncan situation had irritated Dave as far as media coverage. Feels he has been treated unfairly. Dave didn't want to talk publicly about the team's decision to send Chris down.

That doesn't sound good.

Did they mention that Garcia would be going on short rest? I understand the distaste for Reyes, but short rest isn't a trivial matter.

Mulder's like a monster in a horror movie. He just won't die.

Dave seemed to think the date would fit well with Garcia's rotation schedule, but seeing that he just pitched the 8th, it would be short rest. Maybe Dave didn't know this.

I think he is probably more upset with the fact that some members of the media felt that Chris either hung around too long only because his Dad is a coach, or also that the media tries to stir something up when it is baseball decision.

Heck, even if he's just mad he got sent down. It's his Dad, he's allowed to be biased.

I wonder how low his arm slot will go until it is dubbed "The Quisenberry"

It's officially reached the point where whenever I read Mulder's name, I black out. And when I come to, I'm in the next paragraph and I'm visibly shaking.

I don't see why they just don't start Wellemeyer on Thursday, and worry about a Saturday starter then. It could be Pineiro, but also Thompson and Todd are both on rotation to start that day in the minors, so either one could be used in that situation, or they could call up Garcia and have him go on five days' rest instead of three.

Reyes would not be used on Saturday - he's due to pitch tonight - but could start on Sunday if tonight indicates Boggs isn't ready yet.

It's frustrating, not knowing who's gonna pitch, but it is encouraging that we have, apparently, quite a few reasonable options still available; it's not like we're going out and signing Sidney Ponson of Jeff Weaver or something. ;)
