The Cubs are a problem

Post by dmarx114 »

Through 20 games, the Cubs are 12-8, and 8-4 on the road. They have had an insanely difficult schedule, yet have held their own against the Dodgers and Padres.

Kyle Tucker might be the MVP through 20 games. And the lineup as a whole looks formidable. They play great defense and have a strong back end of the bullpen.

Starting pitching appears to be their weakness, especially with the loss of Steele, but so far, their starters have held up pretty well.

It feels like they are going to finish at least 10 games ahead of us in the standings. I hope I am wrong.

They're outstanding. It appears there is a real divide this year among the haves and have nots. With the Cardinals falling to have not status.

Cubs, Dodgers, Padres, Giants, Phillies all clearly better with Mets, Diamondbacks, Brewers all probably better as well.

The playoff odds are tiny for a reason.

The Cubs have operated on just one rung or two above the Cardinals on the spending and trade ladder over the last couple of years. That could have been us, given the slightest effort.

Good thing Girsch was able to deftly execute that special project to identify and acquire Phil Maton this offseason.

I'm very hesitant to make much out of records or performances before June. Especially of a team with no track record.

You can lose a division before the summer, but it's extremely hard to win one before then.

The Cubs have a good lineup but their rotation, especially without Steele, is very underwhelming though.

The division is very soft, so they could easily hit their way into 90+ wins pretty easily. But if they only won 80 games, I wouldn't be surprised either.

To me, they're not like a Dodgers where their floor is 95 wins. Their floor is out the playoffs and 4th in the division.

They don't have the pitching to make it work long term.

But yeah, they are better than the Cardinals in a lot of ways.

My money will forever be on the Brewers doing way better than they should until they show me otherwise.

Cam Smith, Paredes, Wesneski looks like a crazy good haul for the Astros.

It hurts that other teams make these deals and we are still waiting for any kind of impactful return to a trade deadline sell-off (yes they traded a better player than anyone we did).
