Scott to Memphis

Post by CardsofSTL »

No official transaction announced but it's being reported that Victor Scott did not travel to New York with the team and will instead report to Memphis. The corresponding move expected to be Nathan Church coming off the IL Tuesday.

It’s nice to see them giving players time to work on things and then to have players able to replace them.

Crooks, Church, Velazquez, Torres, and Noot make the lineup and bench so much better.
I also have hope that the development team can do something with Scott in AAA.

Who will provide us with valuable bunts now?

I don't think that tracks the failed bunts either

Finally. It's a bummer because I like him in general, but he's had plenty of opportunities. Props to Bloom for continuing to make these tough choices. Time to see what Church can do.

Maybe someone in Memphis can teach him to bunt, especially to drag bunt

I don't understand why people are saying this is a difficult choice. He has a .566 OPS in 800 plate appearances. The things that made him useful, defense and baserunning, haven't been as good this season. Not many teams in baseball would have given Scott so much run. Certainly no contenders.

We all want this to work. I want Scott to be a great defensive Vince Coleman. But he hasn't been and he's 25 now. Gotta see what Church can do, which might not be much better.

I've been wondering how much we're going to see position players sent down given Bloom repeatedly suggesting people won't be called up before they're ready and maybe then some. But now that both Torres and Velasquez are up with Noot here, that leaves plenty room for this without worrying about that. Baez is the only OF left in AAA that seems likely to be promoted anytime in the near future.

Once Baez is up, hopefully he's up for good. Probably after Nootbaaaaar is traded.
