Tommy John Dies at 83

The 26-year MLB veteran, known for the elbow surgery named after him, died following recent health issues and hospice care. In 1974, after tearing his ulnar collateral ligament with the Dodgers, Dr. Frank Jobe performed the experimental reconstruction that allowed John to return and win 164 more games, posting 31 WAR. He finished with a 288-231 record, 3.34 ERA, 2,245 strikeouts, four All-Star selections, and stints with the Indians, White Sox, Dodgers, Yankees, and Angels.

Remind me again, wy isn't he in the Hall of Fame?
He and Curt Flood deserve a place as much for their off field cotributions as on.

I don't disagree but its a product of his era. Used to have to get to that 300 win threshold to have a real chance.

I'm completely with Joe on John & Flood. Besides, Bob Gibson & Koufax weren't 300 game winners, so that's not enough of a valid argument for me.

Gibson and Koufax were dominant vs durable. And it is not my argument; it is just what people say. 300 wins was a sure fire hall of famer.

He was a pretty good pitcher who lasted forever because it was easier in his era.

There should be a wing in the HOF for Dr. Jobe.
